Workaround to work "synchronously"

Hey,

i have found a way to work (or share) sync-a-like with the app, without exporting single layers (shp) manually. Ok, you need the app "DriveSync" (one time payment), but that's all.

DriveSync will generate a folder in your GoogleDrive to share your project data. Within the app there is an option if the other device should only read the data or if the other device can override it.

The only thing you have to do is to close Locus on the receiving device. Export/Synchronize on the sending device. Then run DriveSync on the receiving device (it will override the project data on that device), then reopen Locus. After that workaround  your coworkers/receivers can see or work with exactly the same work progress you have done on you own device. No manually sharing and implementation of single shp-data and adjustment of symbology.

It's a huge improvement for my daily working experience and might be useful for you too.

OK, it is not too simple to manage within bigger groups. If applied false, data could be lost if you want to operate in both directions. But for me it is essential, that not only me and myself can operate with my collected data when it is about to work with more complex projects on Locus.

Ps: that's not a commercial thread, but i'm curios if some of you are looking for this "function" too...

Best regards,

Nick.

Great idea, thank you for sharing!

In my company we are doing the same with OneDrive and OneSync Ultimate (same like DriveSync but for MS). For sure it's only a workaround. It fails if several guys are syncing simultaneously (newest overwrites all...). In long terms I'm more interested in some true online collaboration or at least in integration of data of several (LGIS or other) databases into one project (as known from desktop GIS).

Synchronization Solution for Team Project Data on a Central Tablet

Dear Locus GIS Team,

I hope this message finds you well.

We are a team of four people working on a project where we divide tasks based on different locations. Each team member measures and records data for the streets we work on. To centralize our progress, we use a fifth tablet in our office to monitor the visited locations and track the number of streets built.

Currently, we are seeking a solution that would allow all the measured streets to be synchronized and updated on this central office tablet. This would help us efficiently share and consolidate data across all team members.

Could you please advise if Locus GIS has a feature or workflow that supports this kind of synchronization? Any recommendations or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,

Dear Ahmed,

thank you for your post. I understand your situation, but unfortunately Locus GIS is still "Device only". While there are solutions as described above, it is not ideal. Anyway, is it possible for you to use a desktop PC as the central unit?

Petr

I can use pc no problem, can you give me the exact steps of the Work around

I'd try the following:

- Install OneDrive or Google Drive on your computer and all tablets.

- On all devices, sign in with the same account

- Install QGIS on your desktop computer

- Export the LocusGIS layer from the tablets to OneDrive or Google Cloud (use the SHP file and export a specific SHP for each tablet).

- create a new project in QGIS and open the SHP files from the OneDrive or Google Drive share

The goal is to have one QGIS project with 4 opened SHPs. Each time you map new data in LocusGIS, export a layer and overwrite existing SHP in the cloud.

Please note that it isn't tested but it might work.
